These courses provide the training in classroom and pool required to go for open water dives for certification in warmer climates.
Dive TripsAfter referral course completion, divers wanting certification can do their 4 open water dives in Cold Lake (Spring, Summer, Fall) or join APS on a dive trip to warmer climates for their open water dives during the winter months. If you have a warm water winter vacation planned you can do your 4 open water dives there.
FAQsQuestion: Who or What is PADI?
Answer: PADI stands for Professional Association of Diving Instructors
Question: If I take the classroom and pool training with APS, do I have to complete the 4 open water dives with Action Pro Scuba for certification?
Answer: Absolutely not. The wonderful thing about training with a recognized PADI Diving Operation or a PADI Certified Scuba Instructor for your classroom and pool part of the course is that PADI has 153,000 Professionals world wide. 85% of all dive operations around the world are PADI affiliated so there's a pretty good chance where ever you go you'll be able to finish the 4 open water dives with a PADI operation.
Second, as PADI is the largest certifying agency, course training taken with APS is recognized by all other diving organizations so they'll check your referral paper which lists what you've completed, they'll probably test how current is your knowledge and then allow you to finish your 4 open water dives for certification with them. However your certification will be that of the certifying organization if it is not a PADI affiliated with PADI certified Instructors. Many Dive operations have Instructors from different organizations including PADI.
Question: Once certified, how long is it good for?
Answer: Once certified as an Open Water Diver, it is good for as long as you can meet the physical requirements of the sport. If you are certified yet haven't done any diving for a long time, it's highly recommended you take a refresher course which is an inexpensive re-run through the basics. The choice is generally yours yet may be requested by Dive Operations at their discretion. Refreshers range in the neighbourhood of $50-$100. At
APS, those who took their initial trainging with us can audit any part of a scheduled class or pool session for $50 anytime. For non APS students the refresher is $100.
Question: Do APS Professionals charge for non-training dives in Cold Lake?
Answer: No for shore dives. Boat rental charges would apply if by boat. We like to dive and schedule permitting will be more than happy to join on fun dives. Fun dives in Cold Lake are a good way to improve skills prior to taking additional training.
